Dear Susan,
Here’s your recap for this evening. Great job as usual.
13 Attendees
I spoke to Susan, the head librarian, and Laura before the meetup. They both praised our performance from last Friday and thanked us again. Laura said it was nice to see us from the front. No Susan, I wasn’t just grabbing “as all men do”. I believe public relations is in my job description. Just sayin’
Barbara and Martha surprised us with a stand for the small SUP banner. Tom also surprised us with a stand for the large one. Nice professional work on both. That was very generous of all of you. Thank you.
Martha is taking orders for flaming ukulele magnetic name tags. These are a bargain at $4. Please let her or Barbara know if you would like one.
Susan made announcements concerning Riverwoods on September 7th, the art show on the Bradford common September 10th and the jam along at Snhugfest on September 24th. We are looking for participants for all of those events. The art show will be a collaborative effort with SNHUG. Song list will be issued in the near future.
We practiced the number of songs that we haven’t done in some time but will be doing them at some of the events listed above.
Daydream – tried it with kazoos in the event a whistler is not available. It did not go over well.
Feeling Groovy – the intro will be the chords in the first line.
Bus Stop – intro two beats per cord. It is to be determined whether we will play the intro once or twice.
Do You Wanna Dance – Kim and Meghan pointed out that SNHUG only has three aahs instead of four as shown on our sheet. The existing sequence of G G G7 G7 will be changed. The G will be moved to the end of the previous line and the ahhs will be sung with the G G7 G7.
Birth of the Blues – This will be changed to the key of F. I’m little confused on this but Susan told me she will understand. From a whippoorwill, that verse, next verse, repeat – end.
La Bamba / Twist and Shout – Marilyn will be away for all the above performances. Susan is looking for someone to take her part in the Twist and Shout section of this song. She was hoping the Myers Gang would do it, but it looks like Tom and Jack are going to attempt it. She strongly advised them to practice in the mirror before the next meetup. If anyone would like to try it, please let Susan know.
Joan, who was unable to make it this evening. She has suggested we try Tijuana Jail by the Kingston Trio and I’ve Been Everywhere Man by Johnny Cash. Susan will wait until Joan is in attendance to play them.
I am happy to say that Bev was back this evening. And she was back!!!! She belted out Birth of the Blues. Later on she did a stunning rendition of We’ll Meet Again. Glad to have you back Bev.
Lauren had suggested on Facebook that we show the group the video of our performance for Exeter TV. It is on YouTube under Sounds of Swasey. Maybe at some point in the future Susan can put it up on the screen.
It was a lot of fun tonight and as always a big thank you goes out to Susan for starting this group and for keeping it going. It’s a lot of work and it is appreciated.
Please let me know if I missed something and edit it as you see fit.
Thank you to all my talented friends,
Jack the Wise Ass AKA a very tired Tonto
Good night
