SUP Recap 8/24/2022

Good late evening Susan,

It was a high energy night at the library. I think the patrons were a little overwhelmed having to cut through such an ominous group of ukulele players and singers.  The singing was especially good tonight as was pointed out by several members.

We had 23 attendees. I believe this is a record. Thank you everyone for taking the time to attend.

Announcements :

September 7th – We will be playing for the seniors at Riverwoods in Exeter from 2:30 to 3:30. All are welcome to join. Please sign up on Meetup

September 10th – We will be joining the Southern New Hampshire Ukulele Group at the Greater Haverhill Arts Association Annual Show on the Bradford Common.  This will be from 11:00 to 1:00 weather permitting.  Please sign up on meetup.

The Southern New Hampshire Ukulele Group is playing at All-American Senior Living in Kingston this Friday. There is a limit to the number of attendees. Please see their meetup page for more information.

Tom showed photos of the final SUP T-shirt design. The cost is $15 each. The first order will be royal blue. These shirts will be 90 to 100% cotton.  He advised to not dry them or order a bigger size. Tom is accepting Venmo for payment. We will have the order sheet at next Wednesday’s Meetup.

Tom also told everyone that it takes him an hour to drive to Seabrook.. He said he does it because he loves all of us. I believe the feeling is mutual Tom. Thank you for all you do.

Martha is still selling the flaming ukulele magnetic name tags at $4 each. Please see her to place your order.

We had a great selection of songs tonight Thank you Susan and all the others that contributed.  I want to take a moment to thank Maria for demonstrating the strum pattern and leading us in Another Brick in the Wall.  Nice job Maria.  Somebody said that you’ve been playing the ukulele for over 40 years and it does show.  I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to Bev for her amazing vocals.

Please remember that anyone can lead a song, recommend a song or even do a solo.  Susan would be happy to set aside time for an open mic, if requested.  Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.  Tonto does it every week.

Songs that need attention:

End of the Line – on the last line slow down for the words “end of the line”

When I’m 64 – Susan will listen to it and adjust the music as needed especially in the fourth verse. Feel free to listen to it yourselves.  We have at least one person, who shall remain nameless at this point in time, turning 64 this year.

Do You Believe in Magic – Susan suggested that everyone listen to that song.  Take that as a homework assignment.

On Moonlight Bay – repeat “on Moonlight Bay” at the end to close out the song.

Paper Moon – The intro is the last two lines of the first verse.

Sentimental Journey – repeat the last line. Susan will look to see if the SNHUG version is a better fit for us. Thank you Kim for the suggestion.

Bus Stop – This is a repeat from a couple of weeks ago. Susan is going to change the music to show that the intro is two beats per cord instead of four as listed. Those who have a paper copy can make that pen and ink change. We are also going to play the introduction twice.

It is always a good idea to bring your SUP book with you to make changes as needed.

Please edit as needed.

If I have missed anything please let Susan know.  And hopefully if I made any major errors, as I did last time, Susan will edit it.

I’m glad everyone had a good laugh over it. That my friends is in my job description.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

Tonto, Susan’s ever faithful sidekick
