Hi, All,
Here is the recap from Jack for last night’s practice.
He and I are working on a list for Saturday, which I will post tonight. I am hoping to do these lists ahead of time for the month after this!
Thanks to everyone for a great practice –
Susan
Dear Susan,
It was nice to have you back and feeling better.
We had 13 in attendance this evening for our first meetup of 2023. I thought we sounded great. We are going to have a fantastic year
with a fantastic group of people.
One announcement was made concerning our Wednesday January 18 Meetup. We will not have the large room. Most likely we will be
meeting on the floor of the main library. This means song sheets and music stands. More information and a list of songs for that date
will be provided in the next few meetings.
This evening we were fortunate to have Spider Drew and his harmonica with us. We concentrated on the list of songs that Susan posted
to the website as well as linked to meet up. Since we had Spider there we concentrated on songs which included the harmonica.
We had some minor changes to just a few songs.
San Francisco Bay Blues – instrumental – play through first two verses no kazoos. Spider will be playing the harmonica. It helps
if you hum the tune while you’re strumming along.
Dixie Chicken – kazoos at the beginning. Kazoo’s at the end twice with Tom ending it with a base note.
Love Me Do – end with one strum on the G C G
Fishers Hornpipe – I’m confused on this. Susan will be adding comments which I hope will straighten me out. (Susan here.
Yes- I will write this song out so that we will all be playing along with Spider and not having to go up and down
the page for repeats. )
Crazy Little Thing Called Love – Susan put a note in my book which I do not understand. It think it reads “Spider play through.”
Please clarify. (Yes, I wrote a cryptic comment… I believe what happened is that when Spider played the
instrumental, he continued through the riff – maybe through the verse as well – before we went to the a capella verse.
We can clarify this on Saturday.)
We’re concentrating on the list of songs that Susan proposed for Lowell. If anyone has any comments, additions, subtractions,
wants to do a parody or whatever please don’t hesitate to speak up.
For any beginners out there, we are open to doing songs that aren’t on the Lowell list. Please show up for any of these meetups.
You will have fun.
Susan, please edit as needed.
Thank you all for your time,
Jack
