Sup Recap 8/30/2023

Thank you, Jack – for another great recap, and for another great parody. Barbara and Martha really enjoyed the song – thank you all for participating!

A couple of additional notes:

For anyone attending the Art Show – we will be practicing the songs for that on Saturday (THIS Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Rec, 10 am), and again next Wednesday. Please find the list either on Meetup or the website, and bring your printed copies. We will concentrate on our own set, which comes first, then on the list for our combined songs with SNHUG. Please be aware of one thing Jack noticed: the Wagon Wheel in the combined list is in the key of C, where we usually play it in G. I will talk to Keith or June to find out if they have a strong preference. In a comment last night, I learned that SNHUG is not fond of that song? So it’s fine if we skip it entirely, as far as I am concerned. But I will report back.

Playing along during the SNHUG set is optional.

ANyone not familiar with our Saturday practices: be aware we do NOT use the projector, so come with anything we are practicing, and if you want to bring a song to share, make copies enough for all.

Enjoy these beautiful late summer days!

Susan

Hi Susan,

It was a very nice evening with a great group of friends. We had 23 total in attendance.

We started off the evening with a group of older songs that Susan had put together. Some were very familiar and others not so much. Two of the songs are definitely keepers and need a little bit of practice.

Call Me the Breeze and I can See Clearly Now.

Bill was kind enough to video us singing a tribute to Martha based on the song Born to be Wild.  We are all very happy that Martha and Barbara are able to escape the hurricane unscathed.

The rest of the evening was spent playing random songs suggested by a number of different people.

As we were preparing to end the evening with Jambalaya, the library experienced a brief power outage. When the power came back on the internet was down and we were unable to project that song.  We all rallied and were able to do a great job on the song as usual.

We have the following events/practices coming up please check Meetup for details

This Saturday – Kingston Rec 10 – 12

Saturday 9/9 – Art Show on the Bradford Common 1:30 – 3:30.  This is a joint effort between SUP and SNHUG.

Wednesday 9/13 – Lauren has invited us to play in her garage again this year.  I believe she said this would be a picnic but I could be wrong. More details will be the fourth coming. This will be in place of our regular Wednesday Meetup at the library.

Saturday 9/16 –  we’ll be playing on the street corner near the Kingston Rec. This is to entertain runners, as they pass by, in the annual Reach the Beach race.

We have a couple Halloween events coming up in October.  That information is on meetup as well.

Thank you all for a great time as usual. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please reach out to Susan. Also if you have any song suggestions please send them along. Susan is always open to try new songs as long as they are not suggested by you know who. Maybe you don’t know who, in that case it would be Jack.

Take care and enjoy the upcoming long holiday weekend. It’s looking like nice weather.

Jack
