SUP Recap 10/11/2023

Thanks, Captain Jack –

And thanks to all who join us on these ever-evolving Wednesdays! We lose people to trips and seasons and the dark of night, only to gain others. And we are always happy when you come back!

Please always remember we want feedback on what you like and don’t like, and as always, keep those song suggestions coming!

To add to Jack’s comments:

On the 25th we will meet as usual with a few differences. Yes, costumes are encouraged, and while I am one “Halloween Grinch” to which Tonto has referred, I plan to find something abnormal  enough to call a costume. So you should, too!  Misery loves company!

Also, yes, please bring some wrapped candy to add to the bowl we will leave for the library (we can have some too), as well as a food item or two to send to the Seabrook food pantry. RIght now they are looking for instant mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, pancake mix and syrup, but everything is welcome as long as it’s not expired!

Please everyone look at your calendars and sign up for Avita on the 28th if you can. It’s always a great time there. I have posted the setlist – https://seacoastukuleleplayers.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/avita-october-2023.pdf

All the songs are on the website; “Breezy Afternoon” appears under Parodies. “Bottle of Wine” is new, but really fun to sing and easy (thanks Bill!); just be aware I may try to reformat it slightly (but keep the same key).

News:

We will be adding one Saturday per month, starting with November 11, from 10-12. I am planning on  the second Saturday of November, December, January and February at least. On the weeks we have a Saturday, I will not be there on Wednesday, but the library will be open to anyone who wants to gather. Please watch Meetup for details and changes.

We will be playing at the library’s Christmas open house once again, date TBD but it will be on a Wednesday evening in December.

Setlist for our November gig at the Manchester Riverwoods will be out soon – great place to play and they have their own group who likes to join us on stage.

FInally, I am thinking about Groundhog’s Day. It’s what gets me through the dark days of winter! I would love to enlarge our party to include other groups who may want to join us and play a few songs. The library may let us do it on Friday Feb 2 (3-6?) or we can expand the Wednesday before or after, OR we can look into an alternate venue at which to gather on Saturday the 3rd. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Maybe that’s enough for one email….

Stay calm and uke on!

Susan

Good evening Susan,

We had 11 in attendance this evening.

Events:

Avita Newburyport 10/28

Riverwoods Manchester 11/17

See Meetup for details

Wednesday 10/25 we will be doing a Halloween themed Meetup.  Costumes optional but don’t be a Halloween Grinch.

A Red Sox t-shirt could be a costume. I plan on bringing a big bag of candy and donating what’s left to the library. Susan is trying to organize a food drive for that evening. More details to follow.

The following is a list of some of the songs we went through this evening:

Everyday – Susan played the instrumental on a small keyboard set to sound like a toy piano.  Nice job Susan. It should be noted that earlier in the evening, the person who brought the keyboard was pushed out of the way when he attempted to play it. There were witnesses.

What a Wonderful World – needs practice. This will probably be a song for the Avita performance.

Devil in Her Heart – this went well with separate parts along with shakers. Definitely needs to be a little livelier.  Percussion would help.

Your Cheating Heart – needs practice

Groovin’ AKA Grooving on a Sunday Afternoon – We need to work on the ooos and aahs.  The song also needs shakers.

Margaritaville – sing and play through the instrumental.

Senor Don Gato – this needs a lot of practice. Maria spent time showing us the Fandango strum again. If only we were all so talented

Bottle of Wine – We did the original Tom Paxton version followed by The Fireball version.  This was a fairly easy song.

Does your Chewing Gum Lose it’s Flavour – this is a real oldie that Bill brought to the group. The Savage brothers kept the song together.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow – The song went very well for the first time playing it.

Better Things – needs practice and a D chord needs to added to the end.

That’s it for now. Please add/edit as needed Susan.

Thanks to everyone that came out.  It was fun as usual.

Have a great rest of your week,

Slightly bruised Jack
