SUP Recap 11/01/2023

Thanks to Jack for stepping up and leading ! It looks like a challenging set of songs and I am sure it was a great time. I’m so sorry to miss it – November is annoyingly work-stuffed, but I will be back! I look forward to seeing some of you on Saturday morning, where we will go over the list for next Wednesday at the Methodist church, as well as start looking at our Christmas setlist for the library.

Thank you all –

Susan

PS: Anyone interested and able to go to Portland on a Tuesday night in April should consider attending the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain concert! There are still tickets available, including two already purchased, so contact me if interested. Even though we won’t all be sitting together, it’s going to be a blast!

Dear Susan,

We had 10 people in attendance this evening, despite the fact the we were Susanless.

Announcements:

11/4 – We will be having a meet up at the library from 10 to 12. This is open to everyone as is all our Meetups

11/8 – United Methodist Church Hampton 7 PM.  Please note the normal library Meetup for this evening has been cancelled

11/11 – practice in Children’s room at the library 10 to 12

11/17 – Riverwoods Manchester 2 PM

Please see our Meetup page for more details.

The Christmas celebration at the library will be either December 13th or December 20th.  We should know by Saturday the exact date.

Tonight went fairly well considering that Susan wasn’t there. We tried a lot of songs that had fallen by the wayside and we also had a lot of suggestions from the members. For the most part all the songs went fairly well.

I want to thank Jan for doing the scrolling on the computer. That was a big help. I also want to thank the different individuals that led songs. It is not easy and it was nice to see people step up.

We started the evening with Jambalaya. The complete opposite of what we usually do. Tom said he saw all the librarians heading for the door once they heard the song.

The following songs need some work, practice or both:

Help – practice

Down on the Corner – separate the chorus from the second verse. Move the C chord between  “out” and “on”. Repeat the chorus at the end twice.  This chorus is in a different key.  We do not jump back to the first chorus.

Riders on the Storm – practice

Tom Dooley – listen to the song by the Kingston trio and practice. The count between verses is 2 3 4. Ruth said there’s a lot of additional things thrown into the song. Apparently I never listened to the words, it’s pretty dark.

Moonshiner- very nice Irish song. I will be converting it to Word and sending it off to the Savage Brothers for editing.  I thought they did a great job playing and singing that song.

Come a Little Bit Closer – We actually got through this song this time. It definitely has potential just needs practice. It went very well with the high voices and low voices. We also need to work on the ending. Most of us, meaning me, were confusing it with La Bamba.

Jennifer Juniper – needs practice and we need to learn how to speak French

Octopuses Garden – no issues

Sounds of Silence – needs practice

These Boots Were Made for Walking – went very well with the bass.

C’est La Vie – needs practice and a little more life to the singing.

We ended the evening with Drunken Sailor.

Fair warning, Susan will not be able to make it on the 15th so those who choose to attend will be stuck with me again. I appreciate everyone’s patience and all the help they gave me this evening.

Thank you and have a great weekend. I hope to see some of you this Saturday at the library

Jack
