Good morning!
Thank you, Jack for the thorough recap!
First: Neither I nor Jack can be at the June 15th event. That was a last minute invitation, and we have other things going on. I’m sorry to say no, but realized that the timing is just not going to work for me. SO— if anyone would like to go without the usual leadership, I know you would be great! Just let me know and I will post it. If not, I will refer the people to other groups.
RIverwoods Exeter is on August 16 at 3:30 pm.
Thank you everyone for a really good evening of music.
We will be concentrating over the next couple of Wednesdays on the setlists for Rockingham and the Kingston Volunteers/Employees, but also honing some songs for Mighty Ukes and for car shows. There’s a lot coming up!
Have a great week –
Susan

Good evening Susan,
That little thunder shower we had cooled the air off quite a bit. But it also gave us a few power surges which knocked the lights out four or five times as well as the projector. Fortunately, everything came back on and we continued with a very fun evening. Some of our Florida friends have returned. We also had Spider Drew with us this evening on the harmonica. Always nice to have him there.
We had 23 enthusiastic attendees.
Susan started the evening with a request for members to play at the Brentwood library on Saturday June 15th. We were contacted through Facebook. They are having a dedication of a new rotunda. One of the performers dropped out at the last minute and we were recommend it to replace them. Susan will post it on Meetup.
Peggy also made an announcement about the picnic that will be at her house, in lieu of our normal Wednesday Meetup July 17th. This sounds like a blast. I heard her say something about hamburgers hot dogs, potluck. She also mentioned this plenty of kayaks, couple of water bikes and I believe possible boat trip. She’s located on Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham. I’m sure she will tell us more about it as it gets closer.
There were rumors that this was originally going to be at the nudist colony but apparently they were unfounded.
We tried three new songs this evening:
Help Me Rhonda – We did very well on our first attempt at this song. Everyone seems to like it. If you get a chance listen to it and pick out a part that you want to sing. There’s multiple harmonies, bass parts etc.
Long May You Run – at first glance the song appeared difficult because of the chords but for the most part you just had to put your pinky down. We will continue to practice this song.
Memphis Tennessee – fairly simple two chord song, A7 and D. However, at the top of the page it showed variants of those chords that can be played. It is definitely worth trying again.
I do not believe that any of these songs are on the website yet. Once Susan fine-tunes them, they will be posted. Don’t forget Susan, I can help you with this stuff.
Only one song needs a little work and that is only to add a harmonica part:
Love is a Rose – an intro mirroring the first verse to be played on the harmonica. We will strum lightly during that intro.
We will sing the last full verse followed by the harmonica repeating that verse while we strum lightly. Then we close it out.
