SUP Recap 6/26/2024

Jack, thank you for another great recap!

Except: do not be so hard on yourself! To repeat a theme from tonight: don’t toss it out, practice it! We want that trumpet! Also, have you heard me on the little piano, tin whistle, recorder and xylophone? I will practice if you will.

Seriously, I think every kazoo and whistle and cowbell and drum and gong and shaker and trombone and vuvuzela ( I have one!) is interest added to our songs, and I want to pursue that. Bring it on!

I love the ukulele and we have some great voices. Let’s listen to the original songs and add in the details in novel ways.

I believe at this point our top picks for Mighty Ukes are:

Summer in the City

Please Mr. Postman

Come Sail Away

All you Need is Love

San Francisco Bay

Help Me Rhonda

Tuesday Afternoon

Also, we did not pull it out tonight, but next week we will try Low Rider. It is a one chord song with lots of other stuff going on. See above.

Looking forward to seeing all the other groups at MIghty Ukes and having some fun! Details are being worked out and we will have more information after next week when we can do some fine tuning.

Meanwhile, have a lovely summer weekend…i am traveling Friday morning and pretty sure I will be back on Sunday night.

Keep strumming and smiling –

Susan

PS Jack, I am fixing Come Sail Away right now.

Dear Susan,

We had 15 in attendance for the last Meetup in the month of June.

The library is open next Wednesday, July 3rd. Susan and I will be there for those who are not going away and want to play some ukulele.

It’s been a good portion of the evening going over songs that have been proposed for the Mighty Uke Summer Jam.  At some point, Susan will announce the raffle items and we can talk about a few other things related to that event. We’re hoping for a good turnout, please sign up. It will be a lot of fun.

Before we get into the songs that we played tonight and that need some work, I need to apologize for my extremely poor performance on the trumpet. I have no idea why I thought I could pick it up again after 60 years. And I need to apologize for a horrible rendition of Rawhide. One of my favorite songs. Moving right along.

Summer in the City – practice

Catch a Wave – listen to the song and practice

Come Sail Away – Susan will remove  or I hope she removes the third “They said” I can do it if you don’t have time.  She also said she needs to move a cord. I have no idea which one.

Please Mr Postman – The low Harmony needs practice. Other than that the song is going very well

Help Me Rhonda – practice and work on harmonies

All You Need is Love – practice. Lauren did an outstanding job with the trombone.

San Francisco Bay Blues – We will be doing this song at the event.  Spider will be joining us on the harmonica.

Tuesday Afternoon – practice.  Tom requested that the chord progression be checked.

You Send Me – Susan will change that into SUP format.  Practice

Banana Boat Song – We played this for Bev but unfortunately she was not there.

The balance of the evening was spent playing random requests.

Bill suggested that if there are songs we truly want to learn and get into the lineup that we should be playing them every week. This is something that we’ve talked about in the past and always seems to fall by the wayside. Thank you for bringing it up Bill.

Events:

Picnic and Play At Peggy’s House on Pawtuckaway lake, Nottingham – July 17

Mighty Ukes Summer Jam – Kingston – July 20

Play Date at All American Assisted Living – Kingston – July 26

Busking at the Farm – Coppal House Farm – Lee NH – August 2

Wrap Up Party for Seabrook Library  Children’s Summer Programs – August 10

Dream Dinner Car Show Redux – Tyngsborough -September 21

Please check Meetup for the latest information on all events.

Please remember that all events are open to everyone regardless of skill level. Susan once said that she’s just looking for warm bodies and smiling faces.  There’s nothing wrong with lip syncing and air strumming, or any combination of that. Trust me, you will have fun.

If anyone has any comments, questions, suggestions etc please do not hesitate to contact either Susan or me.

Enjoy the rest of your week and for those of you who we won’t see next week have a great 4th of July

Take care,

Jack, I ain’t no Louie Armstrong
