SUP Recap 10/2/2024

Hi, Jack –

I am thrilled to have you back! Even if you question my family’s choice of reunion day. Can a group of elderly cousins not meet on a Wednesday if they so choose?

Tonight was fun and we negotiated some new and odd songs. Okay, maybe not instant successes, but thank you all for humoring the pirates and 7 Inches… I think they have potential! Please do investigate the YouTube recordings so you don’t depend on my rendition to learn the songs.

We have some challenges in getting in enough practice for Coppal Farm, but everyone should feel good about signing up – it’s going to be a fun and relaxed day, and most of the songs are the tried-and-true.

I am watching the weather for Monday the 14th and I think it would be fun to do an outdoor run through of the Coppal House songs. My back yard in Seabrook is available, or if anyone knows of a place we can gather and entertain passersby that would be cool too! I will post the decision sometime next week.

Other than that… you heard the man, practice!

Have a great week –

Susan

Dearest Suzerain,

We had 15 in attendance this first Wednesday of October. I don’t know about anybody else but these weeks and months are flying by.

We will be meeting next Wednesday the 9th as usual. Same time, same place.  Susan will be returning from a “family reunion” and may not make it to practice. Who has a family reunion on a Wednesday? Asking for a friend.

Susan is also working on having a practice on Columbus Day, Monday the 14th. Time and location to be determined since the library will be closed.

Our regular Meetup on Wednesday the 16th will be in the children’s room. We are toying with the idea of changing the time,  4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The library is having a spooky evening of stories for grownups Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.. The library director would like us to attend.  Sounds like fun.  Susan will confirm ahead of time whether or not we will change the time of the practice. Stay tuned. See attached photo.

This evening we went through a PDF of songs that Susan put together for Halloween and Copal House Farm.

The following need work:

The Weight – needs practice

Maxwell Silver Hammer – same

Itsy Bitsy Spider – same

Tarantulas – Jan will be updating the layout once she receives a Word doc from Susan

Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything – You can find this on YouTube. Needs practice

Pirates Life for Me – practice

Monster Mash – We will play the last verse twice.  Susan will update by putting a G chord at the end.  Right now the monster sounds at the end will progressively get louder and the ukuleles will get softer. That is unless something changes.

7 Inches – though technically not a Halloween song, it is a great song for Halloween.  The song is on YouTube performed by Kate Vargas.

Please listen to it when you have time.

We did a couple of requests at the end of the evening. In the middle of doing a tribute to the recently deceased Kris Kristofferson Susan’s computer shut down. We ended the evening with the usual Jambalaya with no screen. Everyone seems to do well.

Events:

Coppal House Farm Craft Fair – Lee, NH – October 19. This will be Halloween themed.

My costume should come together by then. How about yours?

Details on Meetup.  Please join us.

If I miss something please let me know.

I missed everyone last week while I was out west on vacation. It was a nice time but I’m glad to be back.

I hope to see you all next week,

Cactus Jack
