SUP Recap 4/30/2025

Hi, Everyone,

It was a fun practice last night, thanks to all who joined in! I hope to see you all at some upcoming events. I will be posting the full pdf of songs we plan to play on May 10, and make up a schedule that includes  the solos, duets and small groups that will play in between the group songs. As Jack has mentioned, this is a SMALL purple porch, so we will spread out onto the area in front of it, and take turns playing if necessary. It will be a fun day, and may even stop raining in time! Rain date is May 11, which is Mother’s Day; a few of us will still be able to do it so that show will go on either way.

Next up will be the horse farm on June 7 – setlist in the works. THEN, we have been asked to come back to play for the employee picnic on June 20, (Friday afternoon), at the Kingston Fire Station.

We will be scheduling an event for July 14, a Monday afternoon, at the library in Brentwood. They have a great new ampitheater that some of us played at last year – I missed it, so I’m anxious to check it out! That will make a full week of music in July, as we play at Riverwoods on Thursday the 17th! No worries, we have a great catalogue of songs we can do with little practice. I will be catching up the Meetup listings this rainy weekend!

Save the date of October 4 for our fall Mighty Ukes event – we are waiting to see about a possible new venue. Stay tuned.

We have been looking into getting  a new tee shirt order in, and can use some help with organizing the variables! If we order through Big Frog in Seabrook, they have our design and logo and can print on a variety of shirts. A light gray background will allow for a less heavy type of screening, so that is the plan. However, with choices to be made it complicates the order. Patty has done the background research; if you have thoughts on how to round this up, please contact her, or Jack and me.

Thanks for making Wednesdays at the library so awesome!

Happy May Day,

Susan

Hi Susan,

We had 21 members in attendance this windy but gorgeous evening.

Susan put together a PDF of what is mostly the first set for the purple house performance which is also called the purple porch. My apologies for confusing people when I said the Pink House.  That was the place on Plum Island.

Most of the songs went well. I am not going to list them all here. If you’d like to see what we played this evening, go to the

Meetup PDF songs tab on our website.

We tried the song Daniel again. It still needs practice. Listen to it if you get a chance.

Susan demonstrated how to pick the intro to Get Together.  She was alternating plucking between the C and E strings while switching between the chords.  She can explain it much better than I can. Don’t don’t hesitate to ask her for a demonstration. If I can do it anyone can do it.

We also tried the song Silver Threads and Golden Needles.  This is a fairly easy song if you know it.

In the beginning it can seem like a struggle to learn the ukulele, don’t give up. Play the chords you know as they come around. Over time, you’ll get better and better. Just talk to some of the people here that started out playing one or two chords. I’m one of them. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Events:

CCS Epping – Play on the Purple Porch – Epping NH May 10th. This is an art show. Space is limited. Susan is putting a limit on the initial amount of participants. However, we don’t want to shut anyone out. We will put as many people on the porch and hopefully in front of the porch as possible and then we can swap out people on different songs. We always make it work. Check Meetup for more information. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank one of our members, Paola, for recommending SUP!

Hidden Pond Equine Rescue Open House: Play for the Horses! – Brentwood, NH – June 7th.

Thank you Lauren for arranging. this performance.

If you have any horse song suggestions please send them along.

Please see Meetup for additional information

Riverwoods Exeter – July 17th. This date was confirmed today. Thank you Larry for your help with this.

All American Assisted Living – Kingston – September 27th

All of the above events are posted on Meetup.

It was a fun evening as usual and I thank all of you for making it that way.

Looking forward to seeing you next week,

Jack
