SUP Recap 5/28/2025

Hi, Jack!

Welcome back, and also welcome back to Marilyn. It was a fun night and the horse songs are going well. Tennessee Stud is coming along, and somehow we will make “Horse With no Name” sound a little less like a dirge. I know people are singing some harmonies and once we can hear one another it will be great. Or at least pretty good! If anything is not working well we do not have to do it, but we will run through them again next week.

When we tire of horse songs, I have a couple of new things to bring forward –

Skye Boat Song, given to me by Jan L., is one. Until I listened at home, I did not realize that is the tune they use on the Outlander series. It’s a very pretty old song, give it a listen. I have it in Key of C from Bytown (bytownukulele.ca

The other is “Sunny Day” by Paul Simon. I think that could go very nicely on ukuleles.

Thanks to all for the spirited rendition of “Uke Joan D”! I sent it to Joan, and she responded immediately, she really enjoyed hearing it. She told me she was able to get her treatment on Tuesday, where last week her numbers were too low, but there was some delay in getting the trial drugs, so Dave had to drive to Boston to get them last night. Anyway, she seems like her usual upbeat self, but did share that her weight is very low. Please keep her in your thoughts. We will keep singing to her as needed! Thanks to Jack for Uke Joan D, another of his fine parodies.

I am looking forward to seeing you all next week, and to a fun day at the Hidden Pond Equine Rescue. Please do join us if you able – Jack promised it will be fun, so it will be!

As for t-shirts: I have one large and three X-large blue original SUP shirts, and one large pink SUP logo shirt. We will be following up with placing a new order; it’s just  a matter of making some decisions. Patty looked into options, and we think a gray shirt in a lighter cotton, with choices of shirt style (V-neck, women’s, etc.) would be good. PLease let us know your thoughts, and if you can help with organizing an order!

Have a great week, everyone!

Susan

Good gorgeous evening Susan,

Finally the break in the weather we’ve been waiting for. We had 19 in attendance.

I want to thank Susan and everyone for allowing me to come back this week. After getting sung out of the Meetup last week I was concerned.

We practiced from a PDF that Susan created for tonight. These PDFs are on the website.  Some of the songs are for our upcoming performance at Hidden Pond Equine Rescue.

Here are a few of the songs we did this evening:

Camptown Races – Tom will do a walk down at the end. We will finish with an extra G chord.

Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys – practice

Stewball – practice

Rawhide – getting better. There was some good harmony this evening.

Wild Horses – practice

Tennessee Stud – This song is on The chopping block and may end up at the glue factory. We will make that decision next week

Horse with No Name – practice

Folsom Prison Blues – This is one of our old standby songs. Tom mixed it up a bit by adding a bass intro and bass outro. It was well received.  We will drop the last C chord
