SUP Recap 9/3/2025

Thank you, Jack!

Cindy also referred to us as a ragtag ukulele group! I think it is all valid; we are a ragtag (aka diverse) group of ukulele players with a common love of music and (a sometimes divergent idea of) fun.

Very fun night  (at least from my perspective), and I thank everyone for joining in and humoring us as always!

I was glad Joan and Dave could make it – they had quite an evening and still rushed down the highway to try to make it on time. And while we badly butchered the Oklahoma medley, it opened us up to some great new ideas. Thank you, Joan!

We are definitely at the point where songs for Warner need to be chosen so we can concentrate on making them as great as possible. I am nearly to that decision, and will be sending out the finalists to all who have signed up for the event. So make sure you are signed up!

Practices devoted only to Warner are important, and we need to work on the songs all together – but we will do whatever is necessary to include everyone. We plan to go through the songs at the Epping art fair on the 13th – they are all good enough to perform now. Then, after our performance at the All American Assisted Living on Sept. 27, we will gather in Kingston at our friend Rick’s place on the lake for a dress rehearsal of sorts, and easy dinner of some sort.  That may be enough, but I am free this coming weekend and happy to meet at my house again or anywhere else. Please let me know your thoughts!

Obviously, we are about a lot more than one performance day, and I am really enjoying all the participation and enthusiasm from members new and long-suffering. What I love about being somewhat in charge is being able to try new things and toss them aside and try others. Jack is the reason I don’t just drive you all crazy with this scattershot approach. I also would not be able to function without Tom, who is a very talented bass player, and on top of that can count!  But the glue is all the members who keep coming out every Wednesday. Thank you.

See you soon!
Susan

Dear Susan

We had 25 exuberant members in attendance this beautiful evening.

Susan put together another amazing PDF of songs to work on this evening.  Please don’t forget that she is always open for suggestions. Sometimes she’ll even add one.

One other thing that we need to be aware of is Susan works full-time. She does so much in her spare time.  She is retiring In the near future and we will expect a lot more. Right Susan???

She is still fine-tuning song for the next three events. Some of the songs we tried tonight will be used in the set lists.

Peaceful Easy Feeling – practice

Skye Boat Song – practice

Get Together – practice. Susan revised the song slightly please look at the revised version on the website.

Helplessly Hoping – practice

Stand By Me – Susan revised this one as well. That version is now on the website. It was decided that only the bass and the shaker will be playing on the introduction.

Cecilia – This one has been revised as well and is getting better each time we play it.

Wilbury Twist – practice, We will not be playing an instrumental during the song. Anyone who wants to do the echo is welcome to join in.

I Love a Rainy Night – practice

It’s Only Love – practice

Sound of Silence – Picking only in the first verse, no strumming.  Strum quietly through the rest of the song. This makes the harmony really pop.  Everyone sounded great tonight.

Barr Necessities – We will wrap this song up with a bass outro.

Oklahoma Medley – Joan provided a long and short version of this great medley. It was a lot of fun but we definitely need to practice. We tried the short one this evening and will eventually work up to the long one. Thank you Joan.

We had a practice at Susan’s home on Labor Day. They’ll be at least two more practices before the Warner event. Susan will announce them through this newsletter and possibly Meetup and the website.

We took some time this evening to let Cindy explain Pause for Peace.  We are part of an international movement for peace. We will be filming our songs and then deciding what to submit. We will have a link to the website and more information available in the near future. I am incapable of repeating everything that Cindy talked about but if she would like to respond to this email it’ll reach a lot more people. Thank you Cindy
