SUP Recap 11/5/2025

Thank you, Jack, and Hello, SUP:

It was a nice evening – the little room is limited on space, but every time we are in there I enjoy being able to hear everyone so much better! We have a lot of great singers and players. It also points out to me that I often am leading a song astray, but I can’t hear the people who are doing it correctly. Never be afraid to tell me I’m doing it wrong! After the first run-through, it’s always constructive to go back and review the trouble spots.

We do have a performance coming right up, at Webster at Rye on November 17. Being a Monday at 2 pm, we will be without Tom, and it also will be missing Jack due to an appointment. This is very sad and I will feel exposed on both flanks, but we will be great anyway! Please sign up and I will get the list out later today. I will keep it as simple and familiar as possible.

We will not be meeting on November 26 – that is the night before Thanksgiving.

At risk of annoying everyone like those untimely displays of giant Santas at Home Depot, I will be re-introducing our holiday songs a few at a time over the next few weeks, so we will be ready for the library performance on December 17. We may also be asked to do a holiday performance at Webster. We will keep trying to make “Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy” work, so don’t forget to listen to that and try to learn how the parts fit together. Our other songs are not as complicated but need dusting off. I’m sorry, but it must be done. Keep smiling, Groundhog’s Day is just around the corner.

Speaking of Groundhog’s Day, we are currently looking into alternate venues to the library. We will be talking to the director about keeping the library open on that Saturday afternoon, but if you have suggestions, let us know.

Thank you to all for the retirement cards and wishes, and for making my party a real blast…. I am still figuring it out (and temporarily staying on part time!), but it’s quite nice so far!

Have a great week! See you next Wednesday.

Susan

Hi Susan,

Congratulations on going from full-time to part-time or semi-retirement whichever you prefer.

We had 19 in attendance this evening packed tightly into the Story Time room at the library

For the record, we will be back in that room on November 19th and December 3rd.

Susan put together a PDF of some songs she hopes to use in the future at nursing homes and other events. We also played some random songs and one Christmas/Holiday song.

Songs:

Zip A Dee Doo Dah – This needs a lot of work

Sunny Side of the Street – practice

Can’t Help Falling In Love – This went well but we will continue to practice it

Do You Believe in Magic – practice

Jamaica Fairwell – This went fairly well we need just a little bit of practice.

Hazy Shade of Winter – This is getting better each time we practice it. Please remember to play the instrumental twice. At some point the song sheet will be corrected to reflect that

Heart and Soul – This went well for something we haven’t played in a while. Thank you Rap master Flava Sav

If You Want to Sing Out Sing Out – please listen to the song. We definitely need more practice

Let’s Work Together – great song.  We did well and will continue to practice.

Daniel – needs work, timing issues

Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy – This needs a ton of work but if we work hard we can have it nailed down before the event in December. Please listen to it when you have a chance and decide if you want to be Bing or Bowie.

Events:

Let’s Play at Webster at Rye – Rye. NH

Monday November 17th.  We will be entertaining the long-term care and rehab folks.

Seabrook Library Annual Holiday/Christmas Celebration – Wednesday December 17th.

We’re honored to be asked to come back again this year. It’s a great tradition.

Please check Meetup for more information.

Have a great rest of the week and hope to see you all next week,

Jack
