SUP Recap 11/12/2025

Hi, All –

Thanks to Jack for the recap and all that he does! You don’t need a new superpower, your people skills, including remembering names, are far better than mine! I just remembered a name for once. It probably won’t happen again.

Hurray for Hogapalooza! I will send out the invitation to the other groups. Once we get through Christmas we will plan our song set. If you have ideas, send them any time.

Everyone that has signed up for Webster: Please watch the Meetup page for song adjustments. I will be swapping “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for something with less strum controversy! (Apologies for my failures of consistency with this song – I will leave it for everyone to sing as they wish.) I may also update some of the song sheets as I may have used an older version on at least one. I will get this done tonight and let you know what’s changed.

Christmas songs will be our focus for the next few meetups, but I promise to sprinkle in other things! Little Drummer Boy is becoming quite a pest, but I do think with the assistance of our excellent bass player we will be able to get him under control. The rest of our repertoire is much less challenging! If we are to add new holiday songs this year, let’s try them out next week. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks all, and please don’t let the move to the small room keep you away next week. It’s really pretty nice. I will get there early to get set up and put as many chairs in as possible.

Have a great week!

Susan

Dear Susan,

We had 26 attendees on this chilly evening.

Please remember that we will be in children’s room next week.

I need apologize to Susan and the group. I got all cocky with Susan thinking that my superpower of remembering people’s names was near infallible. I crashed and burned. The new director’s name is in fact Elizabeth.  I should know by now not to doubt you Susan.

One of the members suggested that I need to find a new superpower. At my age, doubtful.

We ran through another PDF that Susan put together. Some of the songs tonight will be used at the Webster performance on Monday. If you’re attending, please check Meetup. Susan might adjust the setlist based on things that went down this evening.

Songs:

Bare Necessities – repeat last line

Lovin’ Life – excellent

Dirty Old Town – This went well considering it was the first time. Listen to it when you have a chance

Jamaica Farewell – practice

Do you Believe in Magic – practice

Dream Lover – this went well

Button Up Your Overcoat – somehow an old version came out of hiding and made it into the PDF. The updated version with all corrections is on the website.

Sunny Side of the Street –  went well, continue to practice

Can’t Help Falling in Love – no words

I love a Rainy Night – went well

Teach Your Children and California Dreaming – both strong SUP songs

Hazy Shade of Winter – Patty and Susan will work on picking the introduction.

Little Drummer Boy……  Back to the drawing board

Feliz Navidad – speed it up

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings – The song went pretty well. If you’re not familiar with it, there’s several versions out there. We were playing The Bare Naked Ladies version.  Tom suggests that you listen to the Sarah McLachlan version as well.

Announcement:

Bill let us know that next Wednesday is National Banjolele Day.  If you have a banjolele please bring it with you.  No excuses. That will be the only instrument you will need for the evening.

Events:

Let’s Play at Webster at Rye – Rye. NH

Monday November 17th. We will be entertaining the long-term care and rehab folks.

Seabrook Library Annual Holiday/Christmas Celebration – Wednesday December 17th.

We are honored to be asked to come back again this year. It’s a great tradition.

This year the celebration will be combined with a changing of the guards so to speak. We will be saying goodbye to the current director Susan and welcoming the new director Elizabeth. Once again my Susan, I’m sorry that I doubted you and was so cocky about it. Mea cupa.

BREAKING NEWS – Hogapalooza III is on the books for Saturday January 31, 2026 at the Seabrook Library.  We will have our regular space from until 4 PM.  We also have a snow date for the following Saturday , if needed. The director met with the board of trustees and they approved our request. They love SUP! and we love their hospitality.

Stay tuned for more information as things develop.

Please check Meetup for our events.

Stay warm and keep an eye open for the Northern lights.

Jack
