SUP Recap 12/3/2025

Hello, All,

Thank you, Jack for your recap of the evening and your heartfelt remarks. I have said it before and will say it again: the group lacked a heart before you came along! I may be the lungs. Maybe the nerves or the index finger.

Whatever, I keep on trying to keep up with all of you wonderful, irritatingly thoughtful people, and I am having a ball. But it’s really all Jack.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes and a really fun and productive evening. We are ready to Rock the Rec, I do believe!

To add to Jack’s remarks:

On Deck the Halls, the note was to add a 4-count G chord at the end of the second and fourth stanzas. The song should really be split up into three verses, with that pause in between.

I will rewrite it for next year, but please mark up your copies and if you have a question on it we can confer before we play tomorrow.

Just have to add, if Jack can’t read my writing he should try reading his own.

The wardrobe plan for tomorrow is to wear SUP shirts if you have them, but embellish with Christmas hats, pins, etc. Wearing the shirts is to make sure they know who we are, but if you would prefer to wear holiday garb, wear a SUP pin and we will have the banner up too. Be comfortable.

To add to the scheduled events:

Remember we will be at the library on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10-12. We will practice for the 17th, but I would also like to take the time to review our upcoming year and what everyone would like the direction of the group to be. More performing? More instruction? Use of microphones during practice or not? Etc. If there is interest, we may have lunch somewhere after practice.

On Friday December 19th, all are welcome to Rick’s house in Kingston again for a Christmas party. We will begin at 4 with an open house potluck gathering and eventually play some songs from the upstairs hallway as we did at my retirement party. No gifts or games or stress, just bring a dish if you want to- not mandatory- and your ukulele and music stand. I will try to compile a list of songs to have handy, but start with the Christmas tunes and we will add in from there.

It’s a busy time but if there is an opportunity to gather here or there between the Christmas party and January 7, I will get the word out.

In 2026, we have booked two events aside from Hogapalooza:

Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the Brentwood library, at 6 pm

Saturday, August 29 at All American Assisted Living in Kingston, 2:30 pm.

These will be posted  on Meetup shortly.  If anyone has connections or ideas for places to play in the coming year, please share. The plan, as in prior years, is to play one date per month.

I think that’s all. I probably forgot something, but we are roughly 141 years old, right Jack?

See you all soon, hopefully tomorrow evening.

Susan

Good evening Susan,

Well the cat is out of the bag. For those who didn’t know, Susan and I are twins. Born a few years apart but we share the same birthday. Thank you for singing happy birthday and being such great fun people. I dare you to guess who’s younger. It may not be as obvious as you think.

As I mentioned, this evening was the 7th anniversary of me joining this wonderful ukulele group. It was truly life-changing. Susan and a very small group welcomed me with open arms. I have never looked back.

That said, 7 years ago this Friday I was brow beaten into performing at the Merrimack Library. It was one of the best decisions I ever made considering I could barely play three chords and I didn’t really sing. I hope that this will inspire some of you to join us this Friday at the Seabrook Community Center, AKA Seabrook Recreation Center. It will be fun.

We had 20 members in attendance for this fun evening.

We played through the entire song list for this Friday.

We did very well on most of the songs with just a few comments that Susan wrote down and then suspiciously took my book home so I had no notes to go by. However she did send me a pic of the page that she wrote on.

Christmas Island – move the D7 cord to in front of the word canoe.

Deck the Halls – I can’t read Susan’s writing I’m going to let her fill this part in

Silver Bells – intro is “Soon it will be Christmas Day”

We Three Kings – pause after the word Grace and in every place where you see the three dots.

We will be meeting next week, hopefully in the big room this time. Then we’ll be meet on the 13th for a final practice before the library holiday celebration on the 17th.

Baby it’s Cold Outside – This was Susan’s brainstorm. She wanted me to sing the traditional female part and she was going to do the male part. We tried it once, I sucked. I went home and listened to it and sang along with it on YouTube. Tonight it just came together. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I thank you all for the applause.

Several people came up to me afterwards and told me how much they enjoy our meetups and how much fun it is. I cannot say anything but I wholeheartedly agree. I’m not taking any credit. It’s just the magnetic field of our group. Thank you all.

Events:

Save the date – we’ve been asked to perform at the Seabrook Recreational Department’s Festival of Trees Friday December 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The song list an additional details are on Meetup. Please try to be there around 5:00 so that we can get in there before the rush.

Seabrook Library Annual Holiday/Christmas Celebration – Wednesday December 17th.

We are honored to be asked to come back again this year. It’s a great tradition.

This year the celebration will be combined with a changing of the guards so to speak. We will be saying goodbye to the current director Susan and welcoming the new director Elizabeth.

Hogapalooza III is on the books for Saturday January 31, 2026 at the Seabrook Library.  We will have our regular space from until 4 PM.  We also have a snow date for the following Saturday , if needed. The director met with the board of trustees and they approved our request. They love SUP! and we love their hospitality.

Stay tuned for more information as things develop.

We will not be meeting on Christmas or New Year’s Eve.  We will return to our normal schedule Wednesday January 7th.  It’s going to be tough for me to survive that long without hanging with my buds.

Stay warm, it’s going to be unseasonably cool over the next few days. Hope to see you all next Wednesday.

I truly love you all,

Old Man Jack
