Hi, Jack,
Thank you for the recap. It was a lot tonight!
Thank you all for coming out and participating as we actually PRACTICED more than usual on some of these songs. It’s going to be worth it!
I truly appreciate the input from all quarters tonight (all the put that came in?)- everyone was engaged and gave constructive comments. Special thanks to Marilyn for the help on some important timing issues with the show tunes, and to Larry for straightening us out on Skye Boat. I know I often get a song melody a little wrong but with repetition feel it’s right – don’t suffer in silence! Be Larry!
I will be editing the music sheets for next week and also giving the songs a listen to get them as right as possible. I will share whatever helpful videos or guidance I find, and also endeavor to get the corrected song sheets out this weekend for you to try out.
Hogapalooza songs will be, in order: Hazy Shade of Winter, Don’t Bring Me Down, Skye Boat, Show Tunes Groundhog Mash, unless we find compelling reasons to change order or content. Yes, I did cut Black Velvet Band in favor of Skye Boat, I don’t think we have time for both. Separately, we will contribute to a warm-up set of groundhog songs and parodies at 11:30, and if time allows, open up the stage for extra songs after every group has played. If you want to do a duet or solo, this would be the time. In past years, this has been set up as an open mic sign-up, but we should talk about the best way to handle it. This could also be a chance for another group song.
Remember to check out the food sign-up for the event, and we will also be getting the raffles organized and sell advance tickets at the meeting of the 28th.
We are looking into another Saturday practice – it’s a little last minute for this week (much as the library loves us, they do apparently let other people use the rooms), but possibly on the 24th. Stay tuned.
Moving on, yes, we are setting up some performance opportunities for the year. If you have a venue in mind, please let me know! We are also exploring opportunities to join forces with our friends at Port City.
I am sure I did not address most of Jack’s questions but we will pull this all together!
Stay in tune, stay tuned, keep a tune in your heart…
See you all soon.

Good evening everyone,
It was quite a mild day today for January. We’ll take it.
We had 23 members in attendance this evening.
If you would like to see a complete list of the songs we played this evening go to our website and look under the Meetup PDF tab.
We focused on songs for Hogapalooza III, which is coming up on January 31st.
We went through the medley several times focusing on specific songs and things that need work. Below is a list of the things that I believe Susan needs to work on. If I miss something please let me know.
Memory – played like a waltz. Pause at the end.
Tommy – add [Em] at the beginning of the last line of the second Tommy verse. It should match the first Tommy verse. It was also mentioned that the verses might be out of order, Susan will check on that.
Tomorrow – One strum at the end on “away”
Oh What a Beautiful Morning – explain intro
Jan H. suggested that, during the medley, Susan should count us in between songs. Using the count for the following song, for example 123 or 1234 or 1212 whatever works. The hope is to get us all starting the next song at the same time.
The other songs that we played that are planned for Hogapalooza were:
Don’t Bring Me Down – We watched the video. It helped us understand the song and it showed us that we had a few good dancers.
Susan will work on adjusting the intro and the outro of the song.
Skye Boat Song – We all need to listen to the song and practice. If Susan has a specific version of the song that she wants us to listen to she will post it in her portion of the recap.
We did not practice Black Velvet Band. As far as I know it is still on the list.
During what little time we had left, we played a few Valentine type songs in anticipation of our Brentwood performances.
We also played in Dead Flowers. That was a new song that Tom G. requested last week. It definitely needs practice and we need Tom to lead us in the singing. Right Tom? You can’t depend on Lauren to carry you on this. Just sayin’.
Events:
Hogapalooza III is on the books for Saturday January 31, 2026 at the Seabrook Library. We will have our regular space from 9 until 4 PM. We also have a snow date for the following Saturday. I believe we have six groups committed at this point. Susan may have more information.
Stay tuned for more information as things develop.
Senior Luncheon at the Brentwood Rec – Brentwood, NH – 2/11/2026
Webster at Rye – Rye, NH – 3/25/2026
Winter Songs at the Brentwood Library – Brentwood, NH – 2/17/2026
Webster at Rye – Rye, NH – 7/29/2026
Play at the All American Assisted Living – Kingston. NH – 8/29/2026
Information on these events can be found on our Meetup page.
As you know we are having a raffle at Hogapalooza. Jan brought in a banjolele that she is donating for the raffle. Thank you Jan.
Also, Marilyn is requesting that everyone buy a scratch ticket(s). She will mount them on a poster board. This will be one of the raffle prizes.
We expect to have two ukuleles, a ukulele case, ukulele tree, songbooks, a microphone and stand and a number of other prizes that I’m forgetting right now. Susan might be able to give us a better list.
If possible, we’ll be selling advance tickets for the raffle this coming week. Stay tuned.
Susan put out a list of items that we need since we are supplying food and drink for the event. If you didn’t get a chance to see the list, it’ll be out again next week or you can reach out to Susan and see what she needs.
I’m sure I forgot something but that’s all I can think of for right now.
If you have any questions or comments please send them to Susan.
Thank you,
Jack
