SUP Recap 3/4/2026

Hi, Jack,

Well, it was an interesting night!

Timing continues to be our weak spot, but we will continue working on the songs that have promise – the key is to listen to the original and mark the music so we are all on the same page. Not that we will sound like the original, but at least we can be consistent!

Meanwhile, I am told that St. Patrick’s Day is nearly upon us! Because it falls between Wednesdays, we will bring out all our Irish songs next week. All suggestions are welcome! I found “Wild Mountain Thyme” in my search for Irish songs, and while it is actually Scottish, it’s a keeper. I hope to keep that going with the help of some of our great voices.

On that topic, I had a question about whether it was okay to sing higher, or to add harmony. Yes, yes, yes!!!! I have a limited vocal range and I really want to hear your voices filling out all the areas I can’t get to. Let it fly!

I have one additional announcement, and that is our April performance will be at Riverwoods Exeter, on Saturday April 18, tentatively at 2:00. I am waiting for final confirmation and will post the details. Please consider joining us; it’s always a great time.

Thanks, Jack, for another great parody – New Englandville was perfect for this miserable winter, and I am only sorry we didn’t get it recorded before the weather started turning. Of course, now it’s going to snow tonight, but I do think the worst is over. Maybe all we had to do was sing about it.

Lastly, healing thoughts and prayers are going out to our good friend Joan. Keep up the good fight, Joan, we hope to have you back in the fold soon.

We have also been thinking of our friend Jan L. as she heals up from surgery. We hope you are soon back on your feet and playing with us. We miss you!

Have a great week, everyone. Remember to sign up on Meetup and/or check the website to see each week’s list ahead of time. I try to get it out by Sunday each week- operative word, “try”.

Susan

Good evening Susan,

What a gorgeous day. It’s been a rough winter. Hopefully spring is in sight.

We had 20 in attendance this evening.

Tonight seemed to be the night of timing issues. Susan introduced a number of new songs and we tried a few from last week. I think they are are worth working on to get past the issues. We’ve done it before, we can do it again.

Here’s some random comments:

Stand – timing issues with The echoes but that seemed to settle down on a second run-through. Susan also said there was an incorrect word that she was going to fix.

Friday I’m In Love – This was a song from Hogapalooza 2. It went very well considering we haven’t tried it in a while

Walking on Memphis – Tom did a great job with this but I have a feeling it’s going on the back burner.

Africa – Susan to work on a few things and we need to practice it. Bill did a nice job with his rain stick. Tom said that there are no vampires in Africa. He said it’s because they bless the rains down in Africa. GROAN!

Breaking Up is Hard to Do – tribute to Neil Sedaka who passed recently. We can do it with practice. Check out the tricky chords.

For What it’s Worth – Susan to check out the ending. Should we repeat it and fade out or should we get louder?

Teach Your Children – One of our regulars, it went well.

Love is All You Need – Susan changed the key. Someone asked why and I believe the answer was because she can.  We need to work on the timing of the ending.

Fool on the Hill – getting better

Wild Mountain Thyme – This went very well considering it was the first time we tried it.

Looking Out My Back Door – Practice

Thank you for Susan for allowing me to play New Englandville again.  We thought we might be able to film it and send it into WMUR TV.  But once people see the forecast for next week, no one will be interested.

We will put it on the back burner until next year and maybe with that in the wings we won’t get as much snow.

Events:

Webster at Rye – Rye, NH – 3/25/2026

Spring Village – Dover, NH – 6/22/2026

Webster at Rye – Rye, NH – 7/29/2026

Play at the All American Assisted Living – Kingston, NH – 8/29/2026

Seabrook Rec Festival of Trees – Seabrook, NH – 12/4/2026

If you know of anyone or any place that would like to have us provide entertainment please let Susan know.

More information is available on Meetup.

Looks like we have to get through some weather on Friday and then we’re going to have a nice warm-up for next week. Enjoy it.

I hope to see you all next Wednesday the 11th. We will also be meeting on the second Saturday March 14th. Please join us if you can.

Have a great rest of the week,

Jack
