Hello, Jack,
Well, you were in fine recap form last night! Thank you for following up on another great evening.
For those interested, the Skye Boat Song is about Bonnie Prince Charlie escaping Scotland after the Battle of Culloden:
Also known as ‘the Young Pretender’, Prince Charles Edward Stuart was the grandson of the deposed Catholic King James VII of Scotland and II of England. He and his followers believed the throne of Great Britain rightfully belonged to the House of Stuart, and led the campaign, known as the Jacobite Risings of 1745, to overthrow King George II.
Although the handsome prince and his troops experienced some successes in battle against the Hanoverian forces, Charles was eventually halted at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 by the Duke of Cumberland and the Red Coats; the bloody clash was to be the last major battle ever fought on British soil. The tale of the Bonnie Prince Charlie’s escape is now legendary and has inspired both song and story.
Now I can’t get back to the left margin but I will continue.
I will be completing the setlists for Brentwood and Riverwoods by tomorrow (maybe today!) and posting. Please come out and play!
Thanks to all for song suggestions, and being good sports about some of mine! Looking Out my Back Door will be back; Dancing in the Moonlight, maybe not! Simpler songs like Moonlight Bay and I’ll Fly Away that give us the opportunity to hear lots of great voices and harmony (I heard you, left side!) are keepers.
Thank you to Jack, as always, for being the best helper ever, and all of you for the support and friendship. Happy 4th!
Susan

Hi Susan,
Despite being 4th of July week, we had a decent turnout. Sixteen in attendance.
We played from another Susan PDF and then picked random songs. Here are some highlights:
Skye Boat Song – getting better each time we practice it
Paper Moon – The intro needs practice
On Moonlight Bay – check “Ringing” vs “Singing” Susan knows what this means.
Dancing in the Moonlight – change the key
Please
I’ll Fly Away – despite only three people having knowledge of this song, it went very well.
Looking Out My Back Door – we need a different version
Sunshine – check ending
Psycho Killer – the song should end on an Am chord. One strum. And if you have the time, learn to speak French.
Events:
Brentwood Library Summer Music Series – July 14th. Stay tuned for the song list.
Riverwoods Exeter – July 17th. Thank you Larry for your help with this.
All American Assisted Living – Kingston – September 27th.
Mighty Ukes Summer Jam II AKA Suzapalooza II – October 4th – Warner, NH.
This year the Contookuleles will be hosting the event. There will be much more information in the coming months. The venue is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Seabrook. Will be working on carpooling in order to have a strong turnout.
For more information check out our Meetup page.
Have a great 4th of July Holiday. Looks like we should have some good weather. Fingers crossed.
Stay happy and happy my friends,
Jack
