Thank you all for coming in to play on a beautiful evening! I hope you have all enjoyed the nearly full moon tonight. I am notoriously misinformed about lunar matters, but I believe the full harvest moon will rise tomorrow night. Shine on, harvest moon!
Thank you to Spider for joining us and adding so much pizzazz! Kudos also to Marilyn, Becky and others that I heard lending harmonies on several songs. It sounded great, keep it up!
Plumfest is very much in the works, and we have a good list of 35 songs, which we have been working on over the last few weeks, plus our two new Plum-themed songs added tonight. Thanks to Michelle for the suggestions and for the alternate words! Not to mention for hosting us at the “blue house” “on 70”. Everyone should look up the Tipsy song on YouTube – believe me, it grows on you.
As mentioned tonight, we will be playing at 1 pm on Sept. 12 – the committee has assigned a second band to Michelle and Scott’s house, and they will play first at noon. I prefer to say that they are opening for us…..We will start at 1 pm, and play at least an hour, but have the option to keep going a while. So I am asking everyone to plan to bring the whole big list in alphabetical order, but I will decide on order of play and print that out. We will be talking more about Plumfest on Saturday; basically, we will need to be in place before noon as it will be very busy and parking is limited.
Looking ahead to this Saturday:
We have a fine set of 16 songs planned, which is similar to the list we played for Birch Healthcare recently. If you are joining us, please also be prepared to add Jambalaya and Talk Dirty in Hawaiian in case we would like to extend the time. I will bring a few extra copies of Talk Dirty in case we plug it in. Come to think of it, Shine On Harvest Moon is appropropriate! I will bring that, too, and we can add it if everyone is comfortable. Generally, I can do the intro and everyone else sings the chorus.
Please do consider joining us at 18 Beach Drive immediately after the performance for pizza, snacks and drinks, and time to talk about upcoming plans. No need to bring anything unless you prefer to bring your own drink. We will have some seltzers and sodas, some wine and beer. The beer may not be weird enough for some. You know who you are.
I had a question tonight about where to find the list for each Wednesday: The lists are posted on the website under “Meetup Practice Songs”, a choice on the dropdown menu under “Songs”, and also I put them as a link in the comments on the Meetup post for that practice. Jack and I do try to keep the songs on the website updated to reflect the latest improvements, so when in doubt, check the Songs list on the website before using an old copy. I know I am guilty of using my old copies – do as I say, not as I do.
As a reminder, signing up for events via Meetup, including the Wednesday jams, ensures that you will receive notice of all information related to the date.
Lastly, It was very nice to see our friends Herb and Eileen. For those who do not know him, Herb leads the Newburyport group, Port City.

Good evening Susan,
It was a very nice evening outside as well as inside the small room. We had 21 members in attendance.
Reminder: After Saturday’s performance we are all invited back to Rick’s house for snacks and a discussion about Plumfest and other things we’d like to do in the future. I believe that, sometime in September, on our regular Wednesday Meetup, we will discuss the upcoming year as well.
We took a moment to show our respect for Dolly Parton by performing Jolene. It went very well considering that we have not tried it in many years. If you were listening closely Susan said why we haven’t played it. Rest in Peace Dolly. I just heard that we lost Tim Curry as well. I’m sure Susan will come up with something to honor him next week.
We went over some of the songs for this Saturday’s performance at the All-American Assisted Living center in Kingston. All went well.
After that, we went over some of the the songs for Plumfest. I’ll touch on a few here but for the most everthing went very well.
One after 909 – Susan hasn’t had a chance but she intends to add a some C7s as was stated in last week’s recap.
Blue Sky – Susan is going to figure out a way to notate the couple of chords that are only played for two beats as opposed to four
Bubbles Up – Susan is going to listen to it and decide how to transition into the bridge.
We had two special songs added this evening. These were brought to the group by Michelle. She also helped Susan lead the songs.
Tipsy – Michelle added a Plum Island twist to this song. It went pretty good considering most of us have never heard it.
Plum Island Escape – A parody of the Escape song. Know to most as The Pina Colada Song. The words were brilliantly written by Michelle. This was well received. Great job Michelle. I believe Susan and Michelle are going to tweak a couple words here and there.
