Well, it was a lovely summer day today, and I hope we have many more before heading into the heating season. Nonetheless, it felt like time to dust off the fall and winter songs.
Thanks to Becky and Tom for bringing us 25 or 6 to 4. It’s very fun and I think we will easily get the basics of the chords and riff down. We will need strong vocals, and I am also taking suggestions about how to reproduce the horns in the song. Kazoos would be amusing if that’s all we come up with.
I am quite attached to Underdog, but we will see how it goes with a little more practice. Please do listen to the cartoon theme song online and help me get the harmonies together. Bill can have fun with the sound effects, and I think an instrumental verse picked out on ukuleles would be stunning.
If you have opinions on our Warner song selections, please speak up. Right now, I am considering The Way, Stand, If You Want to Sing Out, 25 or 6 to 4, UNDERDOG, One After 909, Simple Song of Freedom (with rewrite), and Blue Sky. It is still a very preliminary list and Jack will probably remind me of some good options I am forgetting. Thank you, Bill, for weighing in with suggestions even as I type! Tonight we thought 7 Inches might be a good choice too. We need feedback so we can whittle this down and have time to get the 5 we choose whipped into shape. The decision will partly depend on who will be able to join us, so please sign up for Warner as soon as you know you can make it.
Further information about the line up and when we will play will be forthcoming soon. We were set to play at 12:15 but I think there may be some adjustments.
I am beginning to reach out to nursing homes and other venues for 2027. Thanks to Chris for volunteering to help with communicating with the nursing home activities directors. As Jack suggested, please let me know of any venues you would like us to approach, including nursing homes, farm markets, fairs, your cousin’s birthday party, etc.
We hope very much to be back in Michelle and Scott’s yard next year for Plumfest! We truly enjoyed our first time at this amazing event (although there was an urban legend circulating that we are regulars), and are very grateful for the opportunity. The weather was fantastic, not to mention the company. Thank you so much to Michelle and Scott and their family! And let’s not forget Brighty.

I want to give a big thank you to Michelle and Scott for the hospitality they showed us at Plumfest. We had a great time at this beautiful location. Hoping we can do it again next year.

It’s time to start planning for our performance at the Warner Ukulele Festival.

Breaking Up is Hard to Do – listen and practice. There are a lot of different chords.

California Dreaming – One of our staples. Needs practice

Dream Lover – went well
I’ll See You in My Dreams – practice
Hazy Shade of Winter – We haven’t tried this since February. It’s time to dust it off and work on the picking, if you have a low G. Susan brought it back out because she alluded that winter wasn’t that far away. I’m still clinging on to the last week of Summer.
Underdog – listen to the theme song when you have a chance. Susan really likes this song and we should try to keep her happy especially since she’s the boss.
The Letter – listen and practice
Harvest Moon – This is a good song for the fall. Please listen to it when you have a chance and practice. The chords are easier than they look.
Peggy Sue – This went well for our first attempt. Practice
Simple Song of Freedom – practice
Patty and Susan sang 7 Inches. Even though Susan considers it a Halloween song I believe stalking takes place year round. They did a great job, as usual, Bill and I assisted with the sound effects.
In case you didn’t notice, we had a roving bass player this evening Tom has gone wireless. Good for you Tom.
